Despite their diversity, rites of passage trainers and facilitators all serve the same
purpose: That is to separate the individual from their former group, prepare them for
their new phase of life, and their re-entry into society at this new level or position. The
process not only prepares the individual for a new role or phase in their life, but also
may serve to bind them with others who are going through the same process.
Individuals who have been trained and/or certified will guide/facilitate the steps and
rituals of the Rites of Passage 3 stage process- Separation (Pre-Liminal),Transition
(Liminal), and Integration (Post-Liminal).
The trainers/facilitators serve to guide the curriculum course content and tasks as well
as focus on the African-centered rites processes, thoughts, practices, methods and
group dynamics.
A facilitator is responsible for assisting a group event or program, ensuring that the participants coordinate well. Facilitators also monitor that the objectives of the event are smoothly delivered and organized.
A facilitator is a person who helps a group of people to work together better, understand their common objectives, and plan how to achieve these objectives, during meetings or discussions. In doing so, the facilitator remains “neutral”, meaning they do not take a particular position in the discussion. Some facilitator tools will try to assist the group in achieving a consensus on any disagreements that pre-exist or emerge in the meeting so that it has a solid basis for future action.
Duties of a trainer include facilitating engaging classes, identifying areas of improvement and opportunities for the learner, evaluating skills and attending to the learner’s challenges, organizing training materials and scheduling training sessions, and submitting timely reports to the management on progress.
