Akron’s African American Culture, History & Legacy (Trailbrazers) Virtual/Riding Tour

“Without Knowledge of the Past, There is no Future and the Present is Unknown.”

The Virtual / Riding Tour is an opportunity to education, celebrate and recognize the contributions and incredible achievements of Akron’s African- Americans from their first arrival until present day.    It is an opportunity  to learn about and appreciate the history, culture and legacy of African Americans, to  work toward the promotion of knowledge of self,  pride of it’s citizens, as well as,  a more inclusive and just society for all. 

The Tour will help all Akron residents to learn more about the lives of important he/she roes, sites, events and the mark they made on Akron and the world.  The tour will help parents, community leaders and community organizations to spark important conversations, additional activities while also cultivating an important message of healing, diversity and tolerance.

The tour can be used by an individual, families or groups to riding their car, van or bus.  Additionally, a person can view via a computer or other mobile device.

Why: Mission/Purpose/Objectives

  • It will be created to further document, commemorate and celebrate the African American history, legacy trailblazers, heros/sheros and contributions in the City of Akron
  • It will also educate and empower individuals, families and the community

  • It will reactivate learners in developing “knowledge of self”
  • It will contribute to the healing and uplift of the African-American community
  • It will revitalize neighborhoods
  • It will be a source of economic development and tourism for the City
